How do I get dried masking tape glue off a Mahogany bookcase?
The bookcase is about 40 years old and was being stored in my mom’s garage after my grandfather died. I finally got in to my house – Is there a solution that I can make to take the dried residue of masking tape and glue off the wood w/o stripping the finish?

Acetone will eat the finish off, try Goo Gone or Old English lemon oil for furniture, also WD40 will remove alot of things without damaging the bookcase..might take a little elbow grease but one of these products should work….I use Goo Gone alot to remove the adhesive from price tag stickers..good luck!
Hi,
A product like Goo Gone is less likely to attack the finish that’s on the wood. Since it’s been on there a long time just let it soak for a bit, it will get the tape residue off. If the case needs to be cleaned from being in the garage try Howards orange oil, a cleaner & polish for wood without wax or silicone.
